The IoT has the potential to completely up-end normal daily routines, the way we live, play and work. Something as seemingly involuntary as the blink of an eye, for example, may be analyzed for all it’s worth – citing a familiar mantra – to enhance the consumer experience. There’s much at stake. Economic gains to be realized from the IoT are always stated in billions and trillions of dollars. A one percent fuel savings in gas-fired power generation would save $66 billion in 15 years, for example. Or, the potential savings from accident reduction resulting from systems in cars could surpass $100 billion annually.
