Data Center Recognized for Design, Build and Sustainability

Peak 10, Inc., a national IT infrastructure and cloud services provider, announced today its newest data center in Tampa, Fla. was recognized by two statewide organizations for incorporating sustainability solutions and for its use of design-build best practices.

Peak 10’s “Tampa 3” facility was named Best Sustainability Project by the Tampa Chapter of NAIOP, the largest commercial real estate development association in the U.S., at the 16th annual Best of the Best Awards dinner January 27, 2016 at the Westin Tampa Harbour Island. The data center was also recognized in 2015 as Project of the Year in the Industrial/Process/Research category for the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Florida Region Project Awards.

“We are honored to have our data center recognized for its design and sustainability. There is no other facility like it in the state of Florida,” said Cheryl Kleiman, vice president and general manager at Peak 10. Kleiman oversees Peak 10’s Tampa operations, which includes three data center facilities.

“It was really our construction and design partners that took the facility from concept to a two-story, 100% concrete data center where Florida businesses can securely house their mission-critical data and applications,” added Kleiman. ”Therefore, I’d like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to R.R. Simmons Construction Corporation, kNovations, LLC, Leap Associates, King Engineering, and Brady & Anglin.”

Peak 10 opened the 60,000-square foot, tier 3 data center in the Tampa market in September 2015 in response to the sustained demand for its cloud and data center services. The facility offers a wide array of security and performance features to support the region’s prospering business and technology communities within Florida’s high tech corridor. It was built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane.

Careful consideration went into the placement of the new Tampa 3 facility.  The team retained far more of the natural surroundings and environment than required by the governing agencies. Not an inch of the site was wasted or disturbed that did not require it.  The use of concrete, a material that offers minimal environmental impact during its life cycle, also contributes to the facility’s high sustainability. Every element of the project was studied for its sustainable contribution before incorporation into the final plan. As a result, the building is capable of existing for hundreds of years.

“R.R. Simmons and the Peak 10 team worked diligently to design and construct a state-of-the-art facility of hardened construction to help ensure business continuity for Peak 10’s client base,” said Randy Simmons, chairman of R.R. Simmons Construction Corporation. “Collaboration is a mandate when working on a sophisticated facility like Tampa 3.  Peak 10, its vendors and the R.R. Simmons Design/Build team worked seamlessly to create a leading-edge facility from the ground up.”

Peak 10 is steadily adding customers to the new Tampa facility, including Five Points Technology Group as its first installed customer. It was recently announced that Moffitt Cancer Center, the top-ranked cancer hospital in Florida, will also house its IT infrastructure and patient and research data in the new data center facility.

Peak 10’s Tampa operations boasts 40,000 square feet of data center space across three separate facilities. Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Peak 10 owns and operates numerous data centers in key U.S. markets and serves a diverse range of customers in the U.S. and abroad.
