Peak 10 VirtualDR
Peak 10's VirtualDR service enables companies to leverage virtualization to implement a cost effective, fully supported disaster recovery strategy with no requirement for capital expenditure. In physical architectures, Disaster Recovery (DR) and High Availability (HA) solutions can be difficult to deploy and maintain. They require redundant architectures that are typically underutilized until a portion of it fails. Peak 10's VirtualDR service offers companies a software based approach to replication, enabling full, differential or hybrid backups of customer-owned or hosted virtual machines to dissimilar hardware in geographically redundant data centers. The overall cost of the solution is there thereby reduced while enabling more productive use of existing system resources.
Key Features and Benefits
1Peak 10 centralized Replication Job Manager communicates directly with the hosts or VirtualCenter for replication. Replication job information is sent through the communication layer to the respective hosts for recurring replication passes. Jobs are set up based on frequency, replication methods, or destination on a per virtual machine basis. Integration with VirtualCenter facilitates setting up and managing new or existing jobs. VirtualCenter integration is needed to follow virtual machines to their new source hosts after a VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) or VMotion event.
2Once a job has been set up, the information is sent to the source host for replication. This information is recorded at the Peak 10 centralized Replication Job Manager and the job is scheduled to execute on the defined interval.
3During the replication pass, the differential engine looks for block-level changes to be sent to the destination and applied to the VMDK until the next replication pass.
4Peak 10 reviews what type of replication will be performed. Once the replication is complete, a success message is sent to the Peak 10 centralized Replication Job Manager and a new pass will initiate at the next scheduled interval.
5Peak 10 can submit several types of replications to multiple destination host to specific target virtual machine's VMDK file. In addition, we have the ability to skip certain disks within a VM.
