While it’s true that data analytics are becoming a major focus in healthcare, from a management and process perspective, most healthcare organizations haven’t quite figured it out. Many healthcare providers are demanding full analytics programs of IT organizations, but very few of them have a clearly defined role for managing analytics. According to Gartner, “The industry has not settled on a ’best practice’ for whom analytics should report to. While it frequently falls under the office of the CIO or reports to multiple channels, it also reports to just about every other role in the C-suite (CMIO, CMO, CFO and so on).”1 Regardless of who analytics employees report to, due to the infancy of the practice, there are little to no standards as to what IT leadership should be doing with the initiative for the long haul.
