Peak 10’s Engineering Series Powers Up in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 5, 2009) – Peak 10, Inc., the leading independent data center operator and managed services provider, hosted an Engineering Series on Thursday, June 3, 2009 at its Louisville facility.  At the event, Peak 10 engineers facilitated an interactive technical discussion on the delivery of power redundancy to servers, SANS, and switches within a data center.

Peak 10’s Engineering Series are a progression of highly-informative, invitation-only discussion forums specifically designed with IT engineers in mind. The primary goal of the Peak 10 Engineering Series is to increase benefits to Peak 10 customers through engineer to engineer information sharing, as well as educating Peak 10 customers on how to better streamline IT efforts, functions and overall business processes. Relevant and timely IT industry topics and trends are discussed in a roundtable atmosphere to stimulate new ideas and processes among participants. These events are held regularly in Peak 10’s markets, are moderated by Peak 10's highly skilled directors of engineering and often include expert speakers from well-known technology companies.

The inaugural Peak 10 Engineering Series in Louisville entitled “Data Center Power:  Utility to UPS to Server,” included a presentation by Steve Staten, the Peak 10 Louisville director of operations and engineering. Staten gave a “real world” explanation of how to maintain server power redundancy when the demands for power utilization and consumption are constantly changing.  Staten has experience managing two Louisville data centers as well as a wealth of expertise, which has given him insight into various UPS, ATS, and Power delivery configurations.

Additionally, Staten discussed issues dealing with data center power including sources of heat, positioning of equipment within a cabinet, multiple power types in a single cabinet, how to get started with server cabinet planning and best practices for avoiding hot cabinets.  Monty Blight and Jeramiah Dooley, managed services experts from Peak 10’s headquarters, were also on hand to answer questions and promote discussion.

“Peak 10 possesses a knowledgeable and talented engineering staff which continues to surpass customer expectations and improve Peak 10’s technical operations across all markets,” said Dave Vrona, the vice president and general manager of Peak 10 Louisville. “We were excited to hold the first of many Engineering Series in Louisville to help local IT and business leaders get the most out of these technical discussions in an interactive and supportive environment. Our goal is to supply these leaders with real-world examples of how to utilize new technologies to streamline their business while reducing costs.”
