Peak 10 Cincinnati Mentors Technology Students in Local Community
Partnership with College of Mount St. Joseph supplies real-world IT perspectives to Computer Information Systems students
CINCINNATI (July 6, 2010) - Peak 10 Inc., a managed services company with world-class data centers, is pleased to announce it is partnering with the College of Mount St. Joseph to mentor students in the college’s Computer Information Systems Department. David Heberling, the director of operations and engineering at Peak 10 Cincinnati, recently gave a presentation to students in the College’s “Systems Architecture” class, providing the students a real-world, hands-on approach to understanding the operations of a data center.
“It is an honor to share my knowledge with students in the Mount’s Computer Information Systems program,” said Heberling. “Individuals interested in pursuing careers in the IT industry may not be familiar with the inner workings of a data center and the types of jobs that are involved in its everyday maintenance. Therefore, I was excited to explain the multi-faceted aspects of Peak 10 Cincinnati, and what makes our seasoned team successful.”
The College of Mount St. Joseph, located just outside of downtown Cincinnati, provides a liberal arts and professional education to more than 2,300 students. The College’s goals are to assist its students in becoming leaders in their professions and in their communities, as well as to prepare them for their life journeys, equipped with values, integrity and a sense of social responsibility. This system of values was an important factor when Professor Mary Jean Blink, chair of the Computer Information Systems Department, reached out to Peak 10.
“I approached David because I felt he was the perfect person to provide my students with the professional perspective he has attained during his career,” said Blink. “Peak 10 is known for excellent customer service. It delivers its award-winning IT solutions to a wide variety of companies and truly understands the value and benefit of reaching out to the local community. Peak 10 Cincinnati was the perfect place for my students to see firsthand the responsibilities of the IT jobs they are aspiring to attain.”
The systems architecture students who attended the presentation experienced a great deal of what Peak 10 Cincinnati has to offer. Heberling’s presentation covered several industry-specific and timely topics, such as the evolution of computing resources and virtualization. Students learned basic information about Peak 10, what drives the data center and how its expert team works with customers. Heberling then provided students with a tour of the world-class data center, affording them a general overview of how all the components of Peak 10’s facilities work together. The tour also allowed students to gain insight into the operations of a data center, as well as the reasons for outsourcing IT operations and infrastructure.
Peak 10 Cincinnati’s managed IT and data center services improve performance, reliability, lower costs and maximize internal resources for customers while keeping their valuable information technology assets close to the business. The company combines its secure, private network and enterprise-class data centers with world-class engineering and support to serve market-leading companies nationwide.
